On June 14, 2023, we welcomed Dean Prof. Liam Smeeth and Prof. Robin Bailey from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to Kyoto University School of Public Health (KUSPH). Prof. Koya Ariyoshi also joined from Nagasaki University.

First, brief summary of KUSPH was introduced by Dean Prof. Yuichi Imanaka. After that, Prof. Smeeth gave us explanations about the recent activities by LSHTM. Prof. Robin Bailey also gave us inspiring talk about an initiative lead by LSHTM in collaboration with various global institutions to make it possible to create a new drug for a rare tropical infectious disease.

After that, participating faculty members of KUSPH introduced our recent research activities conducted at each department within KUSPH. The presentations were done by faculty members in the departments of healthcare epidemiology, health informatics, pharmacoepidemiology, social epidemiology, health and environmental sciences and healthcare economics and quality management.

Finally, all participants had a discussion about our challenges in conducting international collaboration research and the possibility for future research collaboration between KUSPH and LSHTM.
