来たる3月31日（月）、ヘルスセキュリティセンター主催特別講演会「分断の時代のアメリカ：
揺らぐ科学の信頼と公衆衛生の未来」を緊急開催しますので、ご案内させていただきます。

COVID-19パンデミックを経て、アメリカでは科学や公衆衛生、行政等への信頼が大きく揺らぎました。
ワクチン接種率や死亡率の地域差は、政治的分断や社会的要因と深く結びついており、「Two Americas」や「Red Covid」といった概念も生まれました。
そこでこのたび、本分野の第一人者であるマイケル・ストト教授 (ジョージタウン大学名誉教授, ハーバード大学公衆衛生大学院特任教授)
をお招きし、公衆衛生の信頼喪失の背景と、その回復に向けた課題を議論します。

また本学にて科目「公衆衛生の緊急事態におけるリスクコミュニケーション」の担当講師を務める蝦名玲子は、トランプ政権発足直後にアメリカに渡航し、「なぜアメリカで、科学への信頼がここまで揺らいでしまったのか」についてリスクコミュニケーションの観点から探求いたしました。
そこで、ストト教授のご講演後、蝦名からも現地での学びを共有させていただきます。

公衆衛生の信頼喪失の問題は、日本にとっても無関係ではありません。
どのように備え、対応すべきか―。
この機会にともに考えましょう。

We are pleased to announce that an urgent distinguished lecture titled
America in an Era of Division: Eroding Trust in Science and the Future
of Public Health, hosted by the Center for Health Security, will be
held on Monday, March 31.

The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly shaken trust in science, public
health, and government in the United States.
Regional disparities in vaccination rates and mortality have been
closely linked to political divisions and social factors, giving rise
to concepts such as “Two Americas” and “Red Covid.”
In this international conference, we will welcome Prof. Michael A.
Stoto (Professor Emeritus of Georgetown University & Adjunct Professor
of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health), a leading expert in
this field to examine the factors behind the erosion of public health
trust and explore challenges for its restoration.

Dr. Ryoko Ebina (Ph.D.), a lecturer for our SPH’s course Risk
Communication for Public Health Emergencies, undertook an official
visit to the United States shortly after the inauguration of the Trump
administration to explore the factors contributing to the significant
erosion of public trust in science from risk communication
perspectives.
Following Professor Stoto’s lecture, Dr. Ebina will share her insights
and experiences gained from her time in the United States.

The issue of eroding trust in public health is not irrelevant to Japan.
How should we prepare for and respond to such challenges?
We encourage you to join us for these special lectures as we deepen
our understanding of the current situation in the United States and
engage in meaningful discussions about the future of public health.
