【Subjects taught】
• Epidemiology I: One of the core subjects in social medicine, this course introduces the history and basic concepts of epidemiology.
• Critical appraisal: With a focus on group practice, we discuss checkpoints in the use of observational studies, clinical trials, systematic reviews, and practice guidelines.
• Methods of Health Sciences Research: We talk about research integrity, reporting guidelines for research papers, paragraph writing, applications for research and so on.
• Health Informatics I: Introduces topics in health literacy and health communication from multiple perspectives.
• Special Lectures on EBM and clinical practice guidelines: Based on the concept of EBM, we present national and international trends in clinical practice guidelines (MCR exclusive).
• Collaborating with other lecturers, I also teach Introduction to Qualitative Research, Designing Health communication, and Risk Communication in Public Health Emergencies.

【Emphases in class】
In addition to explaining basic knowledge, I try to talk about history and episodes from my own experience, while also being aware of the interrelationships among subjects.

This course is for beginners who want to learn qualitative research methods without any prior knowledge.

【Outline and Purpose of the Course】
It is widely recognized that biostatistics are essential for the practice of and research on social healthcare.
However, biostatistics textbooks are filled with mathematical formulas and are difficult to understand. All but some enthusiasts shy away from them such textbooks. However, in reality, biostatistics are rather interesting.
In order to communicate this to all students, we explain the concepts of biostatistics in plain language without broaching mathematical and technical details. Please review the material provided. You may feel like you understand the content during the lecture, but to ensure that you do understand, it is important that you check your understanding repeatedly. We will review the previous session at the beginning of each session, so if you do not understand something taught in previously, please ask questions. Technical content will be supplemented in the afternoon during the medical statistics practicum.
