　I’m a double master’s degree student at both National Taiwan University and Kyoto University. As a foreign student who doesn’t understand Japanese, I was very nervous when I came to Kyoto last March. Thankfully, everyone at Kyoto University School of Public Health is so friendly. And, thank for the help from Prof. Fukuhara, Assoc. Prof. Yamamoto, Yamazaki sensei, and all the colleagues in my lab, I really have a great year in Kyoto.
　My learning experience here is wonderful. The most important experience for me in KUSPH is trying to build my own research: from finding my topic to writing the report. I’m a student who just graduated from college, I didn’t have my own research question due to lacking of working experience, although I had learned how to analyze the data in college before I came here. In KUSPH, I was so glad to learn how to ask a good research question. The questions don’t need to be very big or complicated, but you have to know why this question is important, how to answer the question, and what resources you need to conduct your research. Although I spent much time on finding my research question, I still remember how excited I was when I found a research gap from previous studies. And, when I realized I can fill this gap by conducting my own research, it was the first time I believe I may have enough ability to do something for this world. Although the contribution may be too small to be noticed, I still feel motivated to do the “new thing” for the world.
　In KUSPH, the great treasure I obtain is the philosophy and spirit of being a researcher. After graduating from my double master’s degree, I would like to apply for a PhD degree abroad. With solid training here, I believe I can keep enjoying the excitement and pleasure from researches.

薬剤疫学分野

　京大SPHへ入学前、私は総合病院で薬剤師として勤務してきました。当然のことながら、薬物療法は医療の中心的役割を担います。しかし、兎角“薬の専門家”と認知されている（はず？）専門職でありながら、薬剤師としての私は専門性を発揮できていないことを痛感しながらの日々を送ってきました。そもそも、薬剤師の専門性とは何か、薬の専門家として患者さんや医療チームへ何を還元できるのか、しなければならないのか、自問自答が続きました。
　その疑問を解決する術の一つに、薬剤疫学という学問の存在を知りました。個々の患者さんだけではなく、より俯瞰的に「どのような背景を持つ人に、どのような治療をすると、どんな効果が得られるのか、または安全かそうではないのか」という薬の有効性や安全性に目を向けた学問です。そして、その専門家から学びを得られる日本で唯一の場が京大SPHでした。SPHでは薬剤疫学以外にも、系統立てて臨床疫学や医療統計学などの基本を学ぶ機会を得ることができます。今、修了を前に、それらを掘り下げれば掘り下げるほど奥深く、不肖な私には一筋縄ではいかないことを痛感します…ですが、少なくとも入学前の自分より視点が広がったことに（少しだけ）自信を持って、継続した学びに繋げていきたいと考えています。
　良質な学び以外にも、社会人となり10年以上を経過したタイミングで、病院以外の世界でいろいろな経験ができたことは、とても恵まれていました。再び学生の立場になることの利を生かし、臨床業務とは少し離れた視点からも医療に目を向けてみたいと考える中で、川上教授よりご縁をいただき、病院医療情報の利活用の取り組みに参加させていただく機会を得ました。俯瞰的に医療を考察する恵まれた経験であると共に、自身の研究を遂行する上でもヒントを得ることができました。今このタイミングで、京大SPH生でいられたことに、また、すべてのご縁に感謝したいと思います。
　京大SPHで得た多くの学びや経験を活かし、「薬の専門家とは何か？」という未到の命題と向き合いつつ、そして、何より自分自身が納得のいく時を送れるよう、次の一歩を踏み出したいと考えています。
